S.O.L. Testing Dates

Dear Parents and Guardians:

APS is preparing to administer Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) testing to our middle school students. State assessments measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills reflected in state standards. SOL content areas tested for each grade level are as follows:

Grade 6: Reading and Math

Grade 7: Reading, Math, and Civics

Grade 8: Reading, Math, Science and the IRW**

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has developed integrated reading and writing (IRW) items that will be administered as an additional component of the grade 8 SOL Reading test. The new item type focuses on the integration of reading and writing instruction and supports building student literacy skills. The IRW will not be administered on the same day as the Reading SOL nor will the test results impact the Reading SOL results. Our teachers and students are working diligently to prepare for these tests. Please do not schedule time out of school for your student on their testing dates. It will help your student to perform at his or her best if he/she has a good night’s rest, healthy breakfast, and arrives at school on time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s teacher or me at tanika.campbell@apsva.us
