Come try some math puzzles and challenging problems!  From Ms. Dunbar, Ms. Waring, and Ms. Ayoub:Reading Buddies will begin on Friday, November 8th and continue meeting on Fridays through February. If you are interested in being a Reading Buddy, pick up a permission form in the Library today.  Here’s a special announcement about elections:The Presidential Election Mr. Malinosky: TJMS will hold a mock election in TA on Halloween, Thursday, October 31. This is an important exercise in learning how democracy (voting), separation of powers (different branches of government) and federalism (different levels of government) work. Over the next few days, we will hear about the presidential election, the senate and house election, the local elections, and the issues where we vote yes or no. It is really important to be open-minded to the views of others. In a peaceful contest for power it is necessary to agree to disagree. You can learn more about the candidates in the Google Doc linked in today’s TA lesson. With that let’s hear about the presidential candidates. Preston: The Democratic candidate for President is Kamala Harris. She is a former Prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and the current Vice President Henry: The Republican candidate for President is Donald Trump. He is a Real Estate Developer, Reality TV Star, and a former President.Preston: Kamala Harris’s top issues listed on her website are:

1. Cutting taxes for the middle class.
2. Lowering the cost of renting and buying a home
3. Supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs (people who start businesses).

Henry: Donald Trump’s top issues listed on his website are:

1. Seal the US border.
2. Carry out the largest deportation in US history.
3. End inflation (rising prices), and make America affordable (lower prices).

Reign: There are also third party candidates. They are not Democrats or Republicans.

• The Libertarian Party is running Chase Oliver. He wants to reduce the size of government.
• The Green Party is running Jill Stein – Support people, planet, and peace.
• An independent Cornel West is running on truth, justice, & love.

Good morning Yellow Jackets, I am Aaron, and I am Henry. We are here to talk about our community service project called “save the soldiers.” These soldiers are dying for our freedom but they aren’t getting the daily comforts we all enjoy. We will have a “whatever we will call it” after school on Thursday the 31st. We will be collecting things Such as food and toiletries. We look forward to seeing you there.  Here’s another special announcement (Harvest festival): Another Community Project announcement:Heyab: Hi, my name is Heyab Nicole: And my name is Nicole Heyab: On Tuesday, October 29th and Wednesday November 6th we will be having a snack sale as a fundraiser for our community project Nicole: in awareness for breast cancer month and in recognition of child cancer There will be soda and chips sold for one dollar each Heyab: The sale will be outside of the 7th grade doors right after school Nicole: The money we raise will go towards gifts we are making for breast cancer and children’s cancer patients at the Virginia Hospital Center Both: See you there!  From the PTA – The PTA reflections contest is coming to a close. Entries are due this Thursday, October 31st.  The theme this year is “accepting imperfection”. The categories are visual arts, dance choreography, literature, film production, photography and music composition. Again, the theme is “accepting imperfection”. Entries are due October 31st and should be turned in to Ms. Detweiler in room 221.
