Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Join us this May as we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to educate, support, and uplift one another as we break the stigma surrounding mental health. At Jefferson Middle, we believe that mental wellness is just as important as physical health, and we are committed to creating a supportive environment for all students and families.

Why It Matters? Mental health challenges affect 1 in 5 youth, yet many struggle in silence. By raising awareness, sharing resources, and promoting open conversations, we help our students feel seen, supported, and empowered. Learn more about national efforts and mental health facts from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at nami.org/mentalhealthmonth.

What we’re doing this month? The Student Services Department has planned a series of meaningful activities to support student wellness throughout May:

  • Mindful Mondays – Weekly strategies and challenges for students to practice self-care and mindfulness videos
  • Green Day May 9th– Wear green to show your support for mental health awareness.
  • May 9th – Mental Health Trivia (Grade level lunches).
  • May 21st – Dissolving Negativity (Grade level lunches).

We invite all families to participate and continue the conversation at home. Let’s work together to support the mental well-being of every student in our school community.

If you have questions or would like to connect with a counselor, please contact our Student Services team.
