Crew/Rowing Opportunities for 7th/8th Grade

Here is some information regarding upcoming opportunities for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls to become acquainted with APS High School Rowing/Crew:

The Arlington One Rowing Program will be holding an instructional Learn-to-Row program from Sept. 29 – Nov. 3 at the Columbia Island Marina (right off the GW Parkway) from 4:00 – 6:30 PM Mon – Friday.  Click HERE for more information and registration information.  This is a great way for 8th graders to learn the basics of crew and become involved in the high school programs in the spring.  Email [email protected] for financial assistance information.

Wakefield Crew Boosters are holding Green Days for 8th graders and Ready-To-Row Orientations for 7th graders from 10:00 AM – Noon on Sat Sept. 27 and Sat Oct. 4th at the Anacostia Community Boathouse.  These two-hour sessions are free to all 7th and 8th graders who wish to attend.  More information can be found HERE.

Crew is positively the sport to be a part of if you want your 8th grade student to get in the absolute best possible physical shape they can be in.  Almost all medical authorities agree, that for both physical and mental health there is no more powerful of an intervention than exercise.  In fact, studies have shown the endorphins released through exercise are as strong as illegal drugs.   Crew provides an opportunity to be involved in a physically demanding sport that doesn’t involve sticks or balls.  If your 7th or 8th grader has even the slightest inclination to want to get involved with crew these are great opportunities.
