Academic Planning
Academic Planning is designed to assist students and families in successfully navigating the PreK-12 school experience in Arlington Public Schools (APS). School Counselors meet with students to discuss course options, high school credits and monitor academic progression.
Upcoming Academic Planning Events:
In the month of January– Academic Planning and Advisement through English for all grades.
January 9th– High School Visits at TJMS.
January 16th– Option School and Program Application Closes at 4pm.
February 6th– Lottery Day Results for Option Schools.
February 20th– Last day to return all Course Request Forms.
February 24th– Middle School Information Night at 6:30pm.
April 8th-9th- Rising 6th Grade Students Visit TJMS.

Update- Virtual Lottery Application Process Information Session: Wed, Nov. 5, 2025, at 6 p.m. (link will be on the options school’s page.)
- Applications Open: Mon, Nov. 10, 2025, at 8 a.m.
- Applications Close: Fri, Jan. 16, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate from high school, students must meet the minimum requirements for either the Standard Diploma or Advanced Studies Diploma as outlined below. A standard credit is earned when a student passes a course. A verified credit is earned when a student passes a course and either the associated end-of-course SOL test or a performance assessment in history and social sciences.
