Morning Announcements- October 31, 2024

Today is a B Day! From Ms. Dunbar, Ms. Waring, and Ms. Ayoub:Reading Buddies will begin on Friday, November 8th (Next week!) and continue meeting on Fridays through February. If you are interested in being a Reading Buddy, pick up a permission form in the Library today. Forms are due back before you can participate. From Ms. Rosegrant:Today is everyone’s favorite day of the month, CRAFT LUNCH! Yay! Come to the library (with your lunch) today to make your very own monster. Craft it, name it, care for it. Listen to fun Halloween music, hang out with friends, and do some creating. See you at lunch today for monster making!   Here’s a special announcement about elections: Malinosky: The last part of the ballot is not voting for people, representative government, but voting “Yes” or “No” on issues, direct democracy. We have one issue for Virginia and five bond issues (borrowing money) for Arlington, VA.  Ridwana: Should the Virginia Constitution be amended to give a tax exemption (don’t have to pay state taxes) to spouses (husbands or wives) of soldiers killed in action? Maddie: Now for the Arlington bond issues. The first bond issue is Community Infrastructure (improving community buildings) – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $76 million to fix fire stations and other projects? Ridwana: The second bond issue is Metro and Transportation – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $72 million to fix roads, tracks and metro stations? Maddie: The third bond issue is Utilities – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $14 million to fix the water pollution control plant? Ridwana: The fourth bond issue is Local Parks and Recreation – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $26 million to improve parks? Maddie: The fifth and final bond issue is Arlington Public Schools – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $84 million to improve school buildings? Ridwana: Take another moment to review the candidates and vote. Good morning Yellow Jackets, I am Aaron, and I am Henry. We are here to talk about our community service project called “save the soldiers.” These soldiers are dying for our freedom but they aren’t getting the daily comforts we all enjoy. We will have a “whatever we will call it” after school on Thursday the 31st. We will be collecting things Such as food and toiletries.   12. Energy/Protein Bars

Come after school near “the rec center” where you can donate in my minivan. Make a difference, the military members will thank you. We look forward to seeing you there.  From Ms. Leonberger: “From the TJMS GSA: We will be hosting a slayful Halloween movie screening after-school TODAY in Ms. Leonberger’s room, room 219. Did you know that 2012’s ParaNorman featured the first openly gay character in a mainstream animated film? ParaNorman is about a middle school student who can see ghosts, which comes in handy when his town is threatened by a horrible witch ghost!!!!!!!! So join us after school in Ms. Leonberger’s room to watch ParaNorman! Movie starts right at 2:40 so that students can catch the late bus afterwards”   Another Community Project announcement:Heyab: Hi, my name is Heyab Nicole: And my name is Nicole Heyab: On Wednesday November 6th we will be having a snack sale as a fundraiser for our community project Nicole: in awareness for breast cancer month and in recognition of child cancer There will be soda and chips sold for one dollar each Heyab: The sale will be outside of the 7th grade doors right after school Nicole: The money we raise will go towards gifts we are making for breast cancer and children’s cancer patients at the Virginia Hospital Center Both: See you there!  From the PTA – All PTA reflections entries are due today, Thursday, October 31st.  Please turn them in to Ms. Detweiler in Room 221.
