ANNOUNCEMENTS

Today is an A Day.

From Mrs. Foley:I am pleased to announce that 9 TJMS 8th graders were recognized for their fine writing in this year’s regional Scholastic Art and Writing awards. These students faced fierce competition from nearly 2,000 DC-area students, most of them in 11th and 12th grade.

Congratulations to the following students:

–Cate LaGarde, Alexandra Mooney, Sumra Rahman, and Claire Schwentker, who each received an honorable mention for memoir;

–Oleg Kaitov and Kai Simkiss, who each received a Silver Key award for memoir; and

–Jada McAfee, Harper Rath and Emma Tramontozzi, who each received a Gold Key award for memoir. These three students will now advance to the next level of competition.

If you see these students, please congratulate them on their achievement, and wish Jada, Harper and Emma luck in the next round!  Also, a big shout-out to all the students who entered this contest on their hard work in preparing for this competition.

From Ms. Bennett:TJMS Writers and Artists: Now that the first semester is over, it’s time for the Winter edition of the Jefferson Journal of Art and Writing! If you have poems, stories, art, photography, or other work you are proud of from this semester and want to publish, please share it with the world! To submit your work you can go to tinyurl.com/TJMSlit and click “submit your work” or you can send it to Ms. Bennett at Katlyn.bennett@apsva.us. Submissions for the winter edition are due on Friday February 10.

From Ms. Wall and Ms. Rosegrant:Please join us in the Library today during your lunchtime for our January Library Craft.  Students have the opportunity to make teacup bookmarks, relax, listen to some music, and chat with friends.  Come today during lunches!

From Ms. Leonberger:”Do you love the DEATH, ROT, AND DECAY of Compost Club but wish there was more ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION? Do you love the ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION of the Jefferson Environmental Club but wish there was more DEATH, ROT, AND DECAY? Well do we have an announcement for you! Today both the Compost Club AND the Environmental Club is hosting a documentary movie screening, after school in room 284 (Ms. Leonberger’s room). Snacks WILL be provided! Come after school TODAY to room 284 to watch a movie, eat snacks, and learn about how composting can save the planet! For more information, ask Mr. Siegel! Or Ms. Leonberger or Mr. Malinosky”

If you are interested in taking ACT II classes for the 2nd semester, please pick up a form today from the ACT II teacher OR the counseling suite. ACT II will start on Feb. 6th.
