Here’s a special announcement about elections: Malinosky: The last part of the ballot is not voting for people, representative government, but voting “Yes” or “No” on issues, direct democracy. We have one issue for Virginia and five bond issues (borrowing money) for Arlington, VA. Ridwana: Should the Virginia Constitution be amended to give a tax exemption (don’t have to pay state taxes) to spouses (husbands or wives) of soldiers killed in action? Maddie: Now for the Arlington bond issues. The first bond issue is Community Infrastructure (improving community buildings) – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $76 million to fix fire stations and other projects? Ridwana: The second bond issue is Metro and Transportation – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $72 million to fix roads, tracks and metro stations? Maddie: The third bond issue is Utilities – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $14 million to fix the water pollution control plant? Ridwana: The fourth bond issue is Local Parks and Recreation – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $26 million to improve parks? Maddie: The fifth and final bond issue is Arlington Public Schools – Should Arlington be allowed to borrow $84 million to improve school buildings?
