Morning Announcements February 26, 2024

Today is an A Day!

From Ms. Bennett: Get ready to Leap Into Literacy on February 29 with a visit from author Lulu Delacre. At 1 pm she’ll be here at TJMS talking to 6th graders about her book Us in Progress. Then, later that night, all students are invited back with your whole family to write your own story with some inspiration and guidance as LuLu Delacre returns to lead a family writing workshop in the Alice West Fleet Cafeteria. Food trucks will be out front from 5:30-6:30, and the writing workshop will begin at 6:30. If you have questions, ask Ms. Bennett, Ms. Wall, or Ms. Zehren!

From Mr. Clark: Good morning TJMS! The JIBMUN Club continues to demonstrate the growing potential of TJMS at Model UN conferences. Last Saturday at Dorothy Hamm Middle School, our JIBMUN delegates took home FOUR awards! Please congratulate the following Yellow Jackets for their awards in their respective committees: Kaya Gadhia and Harper Horneman each won Honorable Mention. Khalid Yimer won Outstanding Delegate. And Meerub Rana won Best Delegate. Again, congratulations to these fellow Yellow Jackets for representing TJMS so well! Have a fantastic week.

From Your PTA: TJMS PTA is hosting a Restaurant Night Fundraiser with Los Chamacos Restaurant (922 S Walter Reed Dr.) on Wednesday, Feb 28, from 9 am to 10 pm. Los Chamacos will donate 15% of all participating orders to raise funds for PTA programs that benefit our school community.   Dine in or order takeout – whatever works for your family. Just don’t forget to mention “Thomas Jefferson Middle School PTA fundraiser” when you place your order to ensure your meal is included in the fundraiser.

We’re doing this by writing cards to people in retirement homes.N: Mental health problems among older people are often under-recognized and under-treated. This makes people reluctant to seek help.K: Around one quarter of elderly people are affected by social isolation and loneliness.N: We’re looking for cards in both English and Spanish. They will be due Friday, March 1st.K: TA Teachers, make sure to put the cards in Mr. Malinosky’s mailbox by the end of the day on Friday, March 1st.
