What’s going on?
Boys Basketball Tryouts: 8th grade on Monday, 10/18. 7th Grade on Tuesday, 10/19. 6th grade on Wednesday, 10/20. Have your student wear workout clothes to school and bring a water bottle. Tryouts run from 2:30 – 4:00 in the gym after school. Late buses are available for all participants. When the team is selected, all members of the team will be required to participate in weekly covid testing done here on site.
Girls Soccer Tryouts: Girls soccer tryouts begin Monday, 10/25. Have your student wear workout clothes to school and bring a water bottle. Tryouts run from 2:30 – 4:00 on the field after school. Late buses are available for all participants.
Phoenix Bikes Program: Eight weekly after school meetings beginning on Fri 10/8. Link to register is HERE Meet by the bike racks in front of the school.
Anime – Manga Club: Thursdays in Ms. Mann’s room 273 right after school.
Environmental Club: Thursdays with Mr. Malinosky in room 277 B (right across from the main office)
Fitness Club: First meeting on Wed 10/6 with Mr. Siegel on the lower (turf) field. This club is to try to help those students whose fitness has lapsed due to the COVID 19 restrictions of the past year or anybody else who is looking to improve their level of health. We will start with a baseline and through mutual support, exercise and education track our progress throughout the year as we work towards personal goals.
Art Club: Mondays in Ms. Shepardson’s room 61 right after school.
Model U.N.: Tuesdays in Mr. Clark’s room 80 right after school.
Garden Club: Friday’s after school in the garden with Ms. Dunbar
Jefferson GSA (Gay Straight Alliance): Thursdays in Ms. Calhoun’s room 206 (Note: ALL students interested in fostering a sense of inclusion and free expression are encouraged to attend).
Drop in Sports:
All students are welcome to stay after school for drop-in sports in the gym. Mondays will be basketball day with 1v1 – 5v5 games being played (depending on how many students show up). Indoor soccer will be on Tuesdays. Thursdays will be open gym with pickup soccer and open basketball courts. Fridays will be outdoor flag or two hand touch football. No registration is required to participate on any of these days. People who stay for drop-in sports/open gym will be allowed to take the late buses home.
Rec Teen Program:
Email OFT@arlingtonva.us for information about the Rec Center’s Office for Teens after school program which begins officially on 9/27 but will be available to students beginning on 9/20. This is a program under the auspices of the Arlington Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. Students who are registered and involved in this program can take late buses home. Parents can also call Ms. Aquila Biddle, Teen Program Director, at 703-228-6983.
